We had a construction-themed party for my son’s third birthday. Hudson looked the part in his custom dump truck shirt featuring a big number 3. I ordered this from Leo & Lyla – a great little company that makes everything from baby onesies and shirts to hair bows and burp cloths. Check it out on Facebook here.
Because I was still on maternity leave, I could really get creative with birthday party decor and favors. I made custom-labels for the water bottles and little food signs that looked like dump trucks. I served the fruit and dip in a giant tool box that my mom and I found at Home Depot. I also made little favors for the kids out of canvas tool belts (also from Home Depot) stuffed with bubble-filled tools, swirly straws, and suckers. The construction cake was a two-tier chocolate cake, with chocolate frosting that I dumped crushed Oreos on (to look like dirt, of course) and topped with caution cone candles and an earth mover. Caution tape and cones rounded out the decor!
